ONCE UPON A PUTT

2023

SOCIAL EXPERIENCE | PUBLIC PROGRAMMING

Enter a world of enchantment at this fairytale-themed mini putt event, created in collaboration with the City of Mississauga and the Hazel McCallion Central Library. By day, enjoy a whimsical, family-friendly adventure—by night, step into the Grimm Brothers’ fairytales.

How might we... create an activity-based experience that blends the storytelling of fairytales with interactive and educational design.

THE EXPERIENCE

Site Visualizations

To visualize the scale of the golf courses within the site I did two architectural sketches in both 1 and 2 point perspective. These show further components scale such as the check in hut, fences and the golf courses themselves.

Golf Courses:

By pulling from a top 8 childrens fairytales article, I then created conceptual collages in the shapes of the golf courses themselves. The actual activation would have the golf courses each themed based on the most popular fairytale data at the Hazel McCallion Central Library.

The isometric illustrations to show what the golf course would look like in the day vs at night. This example illustrates the story of Little Red Riding Hood.

Physical Golf Course Model:

This is a final look at an interactive model of the Little Red Riding Hood story golf course. The pieces were created in Adobe Illustrator, laser cut and hot glued together to become a miniature playable course. There are also hot swap pieces for the day to night transformation.

Research & Planning:

In the beginning stages of this project I did precedent research that had inspired different components within the golf courses. Based on the proposal I defined, I wanted to create a space that was transformational between day and night, and likewise could change for the two primary audiences: families and teens/young adults.

To better understand the site I created an annotated site plan that had different locations, opportunities, and access points highlighted. This allowed me to visualize how people would find the event and what key locations could be good for advertisements to the public. I also created a 1:2000 full site plan and a 1:530 site plan focused on the main area I would be using. These two site plans show the scale of the golf course within the site itself. Finally, I created a materials matrix to illustrate what materials would be used to create the golf courses and sustainable considerations for each.
